Biography

Mahamudul Hasan is a visual artist whose practice moves between painting, installation, print-based processes, and research-driven multimedia work. Trained in drawing and painting, his work has evolved into a multidisciplinary inquiry that connects personal experience with broader social and cultural realities.
He completed his BFA in Drawing and Painting from Khulna University, Bangladesh, where he ranked second in his cohort, and later earned an MFA in Painting from Rabindra Bharati University, India, as a recipient of a full ICCR scholarship. While grounded in traditional painting, Hasan’s practice extends into digital media, sculptural elements, archival approaches, and spatial installations, reflecting his interest in how material processes can hold layered narratives.
Hasan’s work explores identity, migration, memory, displacement, and urban transformation. His visual language develops through layering, erasure, repetition, and restrained imagery, allowing surfaces to carry traces of time, pressure, and lived experience. Rather than direct illustration, he approaches painting and mixed media as spaces where absence, fragmentation, and gesture convey emotional and historical depth.
A significant part of his professional development includes his role as Sector Specialist and Creative Director in a GCRF-funded research collaboration between the University of Glasgow and Khulna University. In this role, he worked with international researchers to translate issues such as health inequity, education, climate vulnerability, and human mobility into visual, exhibition-based, and spatial forms. This experience strengthened his commitment to art as a bridge between research, public engagement, and lived experience.
His practice treats painting and multidisciplinary processes as acts of accumulation, memory, and resilience, where material surfaces become sites of reflection and dialogue. Hasan positions painting in conversation with contemporary social contexts and research methodologies, seeking forms that are both materially sensitive and conceptually grounded.
